About Us

Comox Valley Kayaks & Canoes

Comox Valley Kayaks and Canoes has been in operation in Courtenay since 1991. We have been under the same local ownership for over 27 years, and we pride ourselves on being the Comox Valley's local specialty paddling shop.  Over the years we have evolved to become one of the premier kayaking shops on the West Coast. Our staff of paddlers, instructors, and guides can offer first-hand advice on kayaking, canoeing, and stand up paddleboarding.  Whether you are a beginner, an expert, or somewhere in between, we have the expertise to help you get on the water - with a lesson, a boat rental, or a boat purchase.  We are proud to carry a variety of quality brands of kayaks, canoes, SUPs, and gear.  Comox Valley Kayaks & Canoes is passionate about paddling, and it shows!

Meet the Team

You best know her as the beautiful voice on our voice message.  Kirby has been with CVKC for 3 years working in all aspects of the shop.  She is the most friendly face you've ever seen and is studying to be a teacher in our school system.

You'll often find Craig with his head inside a kayak doing repairs on the CVKC rental fleet keeping our boats afloat.  He is a wealth of knowledge and can talk about gear, paddling, adventures and more! He is also part of the retail staff and assists customers during our busy season.

You best know Sue from all the email interactions that transpire while you are planning your summer kayaking adventures.  She is a staple at CVKC and knows basically all the customers by name.

Welcome to Kris, the new admin staff of our Lesson and Tours division at CVKC.  Kris has operated in this capacity for CVKC before, but now we have made it official! Talk to her about private lessons where we tailor the lesson to your needs and time schedule. Kris can help you determine the skills that are most important to keep you safe on the water; then, she can schedule a private lesson for you to learn those skills with a qualified instructor!

As the new manager of CVKC she is learning lots and getting to know the community.  Figuring out the best gear for you to enjoy your time on the water is what she has passion for.

Don Lockwood
Don Lockwood

Owner. Don has owned Comox Valley Kayaks & Canoes since 1991. He is a kayaker and paddleboarder - and an instructor for both. He is also an expert in boat transport, and can stack 6 kayaks on a Mini (don't try that at home!). He & Nigel can be found stand-up paddle boarding together in the Courtenay River Estuary.

Nigel Lockwood

Mascot.  Nigel is a black German Shepherd. He enjoys paddle boarding with his owner, Don, and can often be seen greeting customers at the shop. Don't be fooled by his size - he is a very friendly dog!
